Resilient Campus Plan - UP Alabang
UP Alabang is envisioned as an innovation campus for technology entrepreneurship and design engineering. It will be the home of the UP School of Technology Entrepreneurship and the UP Alabang Enterprise Center. Five hectares of land in Vista City’s University Town near Alabang was donated by Vista Land chairman Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia. PhP300 million worth of buildings and equipment will also be donated for the establishment of UP Alabang (Philstar, 2017). As part of the agreement, Vista Land will construct the initial campus facilities while UP will design the school’s course offerings, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs in entrepreneurship and design engineering.
A technical working group composed of experts from the UP Diliman College of Engineering and Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc. oversees development of the school. It is supported by the Department of Science and Technology, USAID-STRIDE, the UP College of Business Administration Alumni Association, and industry partners (UP MPRO, 2017).
The first phase of the campus, the UP @Lab Innovation Hub, was launched on January 27, 2017. The hub is located on Level B1 of Vista Land’s Evia Lifestyle Center in Las Piñas and offers a working space for start-ups to be able to form linkages between industry and the academe. It is equipped with four start-up offices, two meeting rooms and an open workspace area for visitors. The place is run by UP Diliman’s DOST-UP Enterprise Center and serves as the starting point for operations in UP Alabang (Philstar, 2017). Once completed, UP Alabang will offer a Professional Engineering and Science Masters Program (UP MPRO, 2017).
