The UP Resilience Institute opens the applications for the UPRI Internship Program for Midyear 2023. This internship is open to undergraduate students who want to gain skills in climate and disaster management work. Learn more about the different UPRI Divisions you can be a part of below.
For any further questions regarding the internship program, you may contact us at upri.educ@up.edu.ph.
I. Education
Who Are We Looking For?
– Students from any background (i.e. Library Science, Public Administration, etc.)
Why Join Our Team?
– Receive basic training in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM)
– Develop writing, communication, and design skills, as well as other specific skills depending on the projects you join.
Join Us in these Projects
– Planning for an academic conference (may be involved in tasks from different committees e.g. abstract review, programs, invitations and registration, marketing and publicity, logistics, etc.).
– Management of knowledge products. Development of Educational Materials (e.g. writing articles, layout and design of IEC materials).
– Website maintenance and development.
Who Are We Looking For?
– Applied Mathematics, Communication, Social Science, Management students, and other related fields
Why Join Our Team?
– For them to see the relevance of applied math in disaster resilience
– Develop skills in disaster resilience
Join Us in this Project
– Evacuation Planning
III. Research and Creative Work
Who Are We Looking For?
– Office Administration, Public Administration
Why Join Our Team?
– Learn office processes, administrative processes/operations, documentation, filing, archiving, office template development, DRR gamification and training implementation/rollout
Join Us in these Projects
– The intern will work purely to support the administrative tasks, operations, and maintenance encompassing all RCW projects and functions; provide minimal support in technical projects and activities (DRR gamification initiatives)
IV. NOAH Center

Planning Component
Who Are We Looking For?
– Civil engineering, geodetic engineering, social science, public administration, environmental planning
Why Join Our Team?
– The students can gain skills and knowledge on GIS, local development planning, and climate and disaster risk assessment. They can also practice research and enhance their skills in communicating technical knowledge to the public.
Join Us in these Projects
– Local planning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training activities offered by the UP NOAH Center. Trainings include: mainstreaming Climate Change and Disaster Risk in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and other local development plans, and preparing the Local Climate Change Actions Plan (LCCAP) and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (LDRRMP). GIS training activities vary from beginner, intermediate, to advanced.
– preparation of local development plans such as the CLUP, and LCCAP, LDRRMP.
– Preparing and designing materials and modules that will be distributed to participants for the training activities. They will also be tasked to research, compile, and prepare infographics of studies and literature (journals, research, etc.) on risk-sensitive policies and projects for different hazards and exposure units (population, lifeline utilities, etc.), as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation best practices, that can serve as examples and guide participants in their local planning activities.
Hazard Assessment Team
Who Are We Looking For?
– Civil Engineering, Geology, Geography, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics
Why Join Our Team?
– Learn GIS skills, hazard simulation, remote sensing
Join Us in these Projects
– Hazard Assessment
– Post Disaster Assessment
Flood Modeling Component
Who Are We Looking For?
– Students from any background
Why Join Our Team?
– Aside from knowing the basic concepts and applications of flood modelling, they can also gain a deeper appreciation of the spatial processes that are involved in hazard assessment and mapping.
Join Us in these Projects
– flood modelling, map layout, data gathering and research, report writing
– Other tasks such as internal trainings
