UPRI Joins the 3rd Philippine Sustainability Summit 2019


The UP Resilience Institute was part of the 3rd Philippine Sustainability Summit 2019, organized by the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation in partnership with the Benita & Catalino Yap Foundation. The event was held last 30th of October, 2019 in Dagupan City.

The theme for this year’s event was “Hiraya: Vision of a Healthy, Wealthy Environment through IR 4.0 Innovation”. Plenary sessions were held under the topics of Health, Science & Technology, and Environment. Pertinent lectures were given under each session, followed by short reactions and discussions from experts and members of the audience.


UPRI was present to give a lecture as part of the plenary session for environment. The presentation given was entitled Building Structures, Building People: Sustainable Engineering Geared Towards Achieving Calamity Resiliency of the Filipino Communities. It focused mainly on the legal environment that serves as the basis for guidelines governing the construction of disaster-resilient structures in the country, and how these rules and laws came to be throughout the years.
