National Simultaneous Earthquake Drills (NSED) Preparations

The UP Resilience Institute (UP RI) leads the preparations for the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drills (NSED) scheduled on 08 June 2023 at 9:00 AM.  Memorandum No. PAJ 23-18 states that the University of the Philippines will participate in drills.

The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA) headed by Vice Chancellor Luis Maria T. Bo-ot hosted the NSED preparation meeting last 06 June 2023 in the CSWCD seminar room.  Office heads from the Public and Safety Security Office (PSSO) and University Health Service (UHS) were also present.

Representatives from all departments, units, and buildings in UP Diliman were invited for the NSED orientation.  The OVCCA gave survey forms to assess the current Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) capacities of the offices.  Over 115 representatives attended, while 23 representatives from various UP Constituents were present via the Zoom platform.

Mr. Jose Abraham C. Ongkiko, Chief Science Research Specialist of UP RI – Institution Building, starts his discussion with the NDRRMC’s aim for the NSED to raise awareness and increase readiness among the public.  Ms. Daffodil Cleto proceeds to tackle the UP RI NSED evaluation form.  The form must be completed by the building administrators in the absence of UP RI evaluators deployed in their assigned buildings/colleges.  All units are required to document their drill exercises and submit a report to the Office of the President through the UP Resilience Institute.

On June 7, 2023, the volunteers from the UP Resilience Institute (UP RI) were gathered to be evaluators of different units/colleges/buildings in UP Diliman.  A minimum of two UP RI staff are deployed per college to assess their performances in the drill.

In the same way, the Office of the Institution Building led the preparation and discussion of the activity.  First-aid and Search and Rescue training were conducted on the same day.  Vests and helmets were given to the deployed volunteers.
