AHA! Handaan Na! Handa ka na ba?

AHA! Handaan Na! is a performative social experiment on food, nutrition, and climate change. The festive qualitative and quantitative research invites members of the UP community to answer the question, “How much are you willing to invest in this idea in the context of climate change?”

Five groups will share their ideas through a short performance with a jingle and poster presentation. These groups include Team RICEng Stars representing dormers and their day-to-day routine. Team Kuman is documenting local food heritage. Mangan! TEAManininda is planning to innovate in the face of climate change and commercialization. Team Binhi is preparing a piece on urban gardening through participatory performance art. Team Bulungan is developing their presentation on the plight of fisherfolk through songs. The performances seek not only to entertain but also to convey a message on how different sectors adapt and address
issues related to climate change.

After the AHA! Palihan, consultants from different specializations are available to help performers bring their ideas to fruition. Dr. Glecy Atienza, Research and Creative Work Division Director, led discussions to translate their ideas into scripts or stories. The Samahan ng Manininda sa UP Campus and the UP Repertory also had a consultation on urban gardening and hydroponics with Ms. Jeny Tuazon of Valenzuela City Technological College. With the last leg of the week, groups are also planning to consult with Dean Marc San Valentin of UP College of Fine Arts for visualization and Dr. Bobet Mendoza for songwriting and jingle making. Students from UP College of Home Economics are also willing to support by sharing ideas on providing healthy and nutritious food in the context of climate change.

Students, faculty, and members of the UP community are invited to attend and participate. After the performances, focus group discussions will be held to process their experience and insights on climate change.

The performance is scheduled on June 24-25, 2025, at the Parola Gallery, UP College of Fine Arts. Concessionaires are also invited as part of the curated experience. Maginhawa Eco-store will sell environmentally friendly products, such as soaps and tea leaves. The People With Disabilities – Barangay UP Campus will also join in selling their upcycled eco bags from donated clothes.

This is a project of UP Resilience Institute – Research and Creative Work Division with the Center for Climate and Health Global Research on Disasters, Tufts University, Philippine Academic Society for Climate and Disaster Resilience, and the College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman.
