The Philippine Insurance Summit 2026, organized by the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) in collaboration with the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA), was held on June 3, 2026, at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City. With the theme “Beyond Strategies: Securing the Pathways to Insurance Resilience,” the event convened senior leaders, regulators, insurers, reinsurers, and other key stakeholders to discuss critical developments, emerging risks, and strategies for strengthening the resilience of the Philippine insurance sector.
Among the summit’s plenary speakers was Dr. DJ Darwin Bandoy, Director of the UP Resilience InstituteāResearch and Creative Work Division (UPRI-RCW). His plenary presentation focused on the Philippine risk landscape and the country’s preparedness for future risks, drawing on UPRI’s research and initiatives in disaster risk reduction and resilience. Dr. Bandoy highlighted the role of science, technology, and innovation in enhancing preparedness, strengthening risk management, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

During his presentation, Dr. Bandoy underscored the importance of leveraging scientific research and technological advancements to better anticipate and address emerging risks. He also emphasized the value of collaboration among government agencies, academic institutions, the private sector, and other stakeholders in advancing resilience and promoting sustainable approaches to disaster risk reduction.
The summit provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue among leaders and practitioners in the insurance industry, fostering discussions on strengthening resilience in an increasingly complex risk environment. Through its participation, UPRI reaffirmed its commitment to advancing science-based solutions and strengthening partnerships that contribute to a more resilient and disaster-ready Philippines.
