UP Resilience Institute – Research and Creative Work Division completes research work for the Global Landscape Report on Anticipatory Action for Health in a Changing Climate.
The global landscape report aims to provide information on the status of anticipatory action on health as perceived and practiced in communities across the country.
RCW Director Glecy C. Atienza leads the project as the principal investigator, and Dr. Carlos Primero D. Gundran, director of the UPRI Institution Building Division and Associate Professor at the UP Manila College of Public Health, provided technical guidance as the co-principal investigator. Dr. Leonard Javier, a community health advocate and faculty at the UP Philippine General Hospital, was also onboarded as a consultant for the project.
Research assistants for the project include Christian Jesus Sanchez, Jamie Therese Gundaya, Mark Andy Pedere, Marvin Tenecio, and Melissa Inte. Following a literature review of existing national and local policies related to climate change and health, the review was supplemented with interviews with representatives of UP Offices and Units and physicians from Quezon City Barangay Health Centers to uncover policies and programs related to anticipatory action approaches to climate change-related health concerns.
A validation session was then conducted on May 14, 2025, to report back the findings from the literature review and interviews, and gather additional insights on the impacts and successes of the anticipatory actions. These findings were then integrated into the global landscape report.
As Work Project 1 wraps up, the UPRI-RCW begins Agap, Handa, Aksiyon (A.H.A.) (Anticipate, Prepare, Act), a performative social experiment that aims to combine performance with an experimental approach that seeks to answer the question: How much are you willing to invest, commit, and prepare to address food and nutrition challenges brought by climate change?
The culminating activity will be “Ang Handaan Bukas: Performative Social Experiment on Food and Nutrition Concerns for Climate Change” — a performance showcase and learning event on June 24- 25, 2025, at the Parola Gallery, UP College of Fine Arts.
This project is part of Abangan… Bukas Na! in collaboration with the Center for Climate and Health global Research on Disasters (CORD), Tufts University, with support from the Philippine Academic Society for Climate and Disaster Resilience (PASCDR) and the College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman.
