As part of the continuing celebration of International Women’s Month 2025, the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UP RI) is taking this opportunity to thank all the dedicated and tireless women who continue to advance the institute’s goal of promoting multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral, and comprehensive disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management.
These women come from all the divisions of the UPRI. From our Ate Guards in charge of security, our utility service personnel who maintain cleanliness and orderliness, our administrative officers who facilitate the functioning of the institute, our researchers who handle different kinds of DRR-related projects, to our Directors who make sure that their respective divisions are well-managed, women play vital roles in their respective positions within the Institute.
The Institute advocates a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) framework that promotes fairness, equal opportunity, inclusivity, and respect for all employees in the workplace. GESI is also employed in the institute’s engagements, promoting the equal participation of men and women in decision-making processes. Gender-sensitivity and social inclusion criteria are also integrated into the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects.
Aside from being a proactive hub of innovative disaster resilience information, the institute also functions as a safe space for its employees by providing a healthy environment that encourages empowerment for everyone. It reinforces the role of women in DRR and empowers them not only as administrators, scientists, planners, and leaders, but also as change-makers.
