Last October 8, the Institution Building Division under the UP Resilience Institute (UPRI-IB) conducted site assessments on various local government units in Northern Cebu after the September 30 earthquake. The contingent was composed of Chief Science Research Specialist Jose Abraham C. Ongkiko, Senior Project Assistant Patrick Ryan Bello, and Junior Project Assistants Franklin Joshua G. Gali and Jonathan David M. Maligalig.

The areas inspected were Bogo City, and the municipalities of San Remigio, Medellin and Daanbantayan. UPRI-IB staff coordinated with the camp manager, PRC Administrator Jonas Maco, in the Bogo Tent City in Brgy. Cogon to ascertain the needs of the evacuees. In Brgy. Polambato, SM Cares Village Homeowner’s Association Secretary Daisy Baquilta Lequigan, one of the survivors of Supertyphoon Yolanda, was also asked about the status of their homes and the needs of her constituents.

UPRI-IB staff met with San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez and DSWD Regional Director Shalaine Marie Sun – Lucero at the Emergency Operation Center behind San Remigio Sports Complex for the situational report and needs assessment. UPRI-IB also met with personnel stationed at the EOCs in the Municipalities of Medellin and Daanbantayan to assess their situation and their needs. Furthermore, UPRI-IB also coordinated with the City Government of Bogo to identify specific locations of totally collapsed buildings and the number of fatalities.

With this, UPRI-IB determined that from the 500 solar lamps donated by SOS Attitude France, Bogo City, San Remigio Municipality will receive 220 and 150 lamps, respectively. The remaining 130 lamps will be shared between Medellin and Daanbantayan. UPRI-IB also identified SM Cares Village in Brgy. Polambato would require shelter repair kits donated by JG Holdings Inc., and to be distributed in partnership with UP Cebu.
