Deep Mapping and Spatial Narratives: Stories of Geonarrative Mapping

Dr. Joseph Palis is a professor of geography at UP Diliman. He heads the geonarrative mapping project which was awarded a 2025 research grant from the American Association of Geographers. He teaches graduate courses in cultural geography, island and archipelagic geographies, geohumanities and countercartography, among others. He is a co-editor of the Palgrave Macmillan Pivot Series on Geographies of Media. He was a visiting scholar at the Faculty of Environment and Urban Change at. York University for 2024-2025.

For. Adrian Pablo V. Sasi is a University Research Associate at the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines Los BaƱos (UPLB). He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Forestry at UPLB, with graduate research focused on mangrove ecosystems, watershed management, coastal blue carbon, and ecosystem accounting. His professional background includes extensive work in GIS and remote sensing to support sustainable natural resource management. He has contributed to numerous national and international projects related to local development planning, river basin planning, and environmental valuation. For. Sasi has co-authored scientific publications, delivered conference presentations, and actively provided technical support in advancing evidence-based environmental governance and climate adaptation strategies.
