On June 11, 2025, Jose Abraham C. Ongkiko, Chief Science Research Specialist of the Institution Building Division of the UPRI participated a one of the impressionists during the 8th Event of the Research Festival: Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset in Business Courses Towards Business Implementation Among Entrepreneurship Students of CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc held at the CMDI Auditorium in Tranca, Bay Campus, Laguna.
The Research Festival is a venue for sharing the results of the academic work (e.g., theses, business proposals, symposium series, and forums) and operational activities of CARD MRI (e.g., surveys and evaluations, special studies, speeches, and the like), performed by the CARD MRI scholars, students, officers, leaders, advisers, and faculty, as well as colleagues from outside of CARD MRI.
Three (3) research were presented during the 8th festival. Two from undergraduate students of BS Entrepreneurship and BS Accountancy for CMDI – Tagum Campus and one from a faculty of Entrepreneurship in CMDI – Bay Campus.
Mr. Ongkiko was the impressionist for the DEVELOPING ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET IN BUSINESS COURSES TOWARDS BUSINESS IMPLEMENTATION AMONG ENTREPRENEURSHIP STUDENTS OF CARD-MRI DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE, INC., BAY CAMPUS. Ms. Shiera Belardo, a faculty member of CMDI Bay shared the results of her study on this aspect which focused on investigating the variables influencing graduates’ decisions on pursuing employment over entrepreneurship and on strengthening their entrepreneurial mindsets.
The study aimed to enhance the entrepreneurial mindset of Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship students of CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc., Bay Campus. The study served as a valuable resource for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in entrepreneurship education. Through an enhanced understanding of the factors that impact graduates’ career choices and improved entrepreneurship programs, there was a cultivation of a new generation of entrepreneurs equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset for success in the dynamic business landscape.
My impressions generally focused on how entrepreneurship is acknowledged as a key factor promoting innovation, economic expansion, and job creation in global economy. And also when I was teaching entrepreneurship courses back in 2018, there was some disparity between the goals of entrepreneurship programs and the career choices of graduates. These are related to enhancing the individual’s skill or training groups to suit their course. There was a gap to what the course teaches (Basic KSA) intended to produce as in the quality of education provided to students by CMDI, particularly those in business courses. Having an entrepreneurial mindset means thinking like a business leader, being innovative, adaptable, and always looking for opportunities. Also, developing an entrepreneurial mindset in students can be achieved through engaging, hands-on activities and structured programs
Finally, research results are incredibly valuable—they serve as the foundation for innovation, decision-making, and problem-solving across various fields such as advancing knowledge, improving policies, driving innovation, educating and informing, and enhancing healthcare.
In closing, I emphasized that it is very important for research work outputs to serve as basis for evidence-based policy/decision making and instrument for leadership and governance.
Dr. Jaime Aristotle Alip, CARD MRI Founder and Chairman Emeritus recognized the research done by the students and faculty. He also thanked the invited impressionist for the inspiration they have instilled among the audience, especially those undertaking academic studies, and learning innovations and initiatives is equally invaluable to the fulfilment of their aspirations.
