Philippine Misereor Partnership, Inc., DRRNet Philippines, and National Anti-Poverty Commission conducted a forum on the “Big One”—UP Resilience Institute served as a resource speaker

December 12, 2025 – The UP Resilience Institute served as a resource speaker on the science of earthquake geohazards, providing essential input for preparedness measures for the projected magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Metro Manila, popularly known as the “Big One.” The Big One Forum was organized by the Philippine Misereor Partnership, Inc., DRRNet Philippines, and the National Anti-Poverty Commission. Held at the Manresa Retreat House in Banawe, Quezon City, the forum was attended by around 150 members of Civil Society Organizations from across Metro Manila.

The forum also covered other earthquake-related topics, including the “Understanding of the Big One” talk by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the Harmonized National Contingency Plan by the Office of Civil Defense, the Local Earthquake Contingency Plan by the Quezon City Local Government, and Family Preparedness by the Center for Disaster Preparedness. The forum concluded with a workshop on “Managing Coordination and Advocacy Pathways.”

This forum served as an important platform for advancing earthquake preparedness and ensuring that civil society organizations are equipped with knowledge to strengthen community resilience.
