From Survey to Solution: UP NOAH Center, Caloocan City push forward with the DMP

As part of the activities under the City Government of Caloocan Drainage Master Plan (CGCDMP) project, researchers from the Flood Modelling Component (FMC) of the UP RI – UP NOAH Center conducted drainage surveys in selected barangays of Caloocan City last December 2025. The first phase of the DMP project was launched in October 2025.

On December 1 to 3, 2025, the team visited Barangay 181 to Barangay 186 to obtain drainage data, which includes conditions of the drainage structures. The information gathered during the fieldwork shall comprise the datasets in the City’s drainage data inventory. The goal of the team is to establish reliable baseline data on the existing drainage network in the pilot barangays by checking the existing drainage infrastructures and their condition, and identifying flood-prone areas triggered by ineffective drainage structures.

The team that conducted the drainage survey consisted of FMC researchers Bianca Berdin, Ram Magdaong, Gil Lontoc, John Harold Cruz, Kate Manegdeg, Earl Morcilla, and Glenn Sabio, led by the Fieldwork Team Leader, Marc Moises. Aside from the Barangay Officials of the pilot barangays, the team was also assisted by the City Engineering Department for the efficient and orderly operation of the survey.

Further data gathering activities, such as the Participatory Hazard Assessment Workshop and Flood Validation Survey, will be conducted in the future to support the initial baseline drainage data and create more data-driven and risk-informed assessments and recommendations.
