Next Steps: UPRI and NSTP-NSRC discuss the Future of the Sanay Agap Iglap Program

On June 7, 2024 UPRI representatives Jose Abraham Ongkiko (IB Chief Science Research Specialist), Jonathan David Maligalig (IB Junior Project Assistant), and Franklin Joshua Gali (IB Junior Project Assistant) attended a meeting at the UP Diliman DILC building Conference room. Joining them were Ramon Bandong Jr. (NSTP Diliman Office), Aeda Tomie (NSTP Dilman Office), and Gellie Flores (PSSO). The meeting revolved around the directions to take the Sanay Agap Iglap (SAI) program after the pilot implementation back in April of 2024.

Ramon Bandong Jr. began by directing our focus on tackling the next steps and possible timeline in regards to future implementations of SAI. It was agreed in this meeting that the program should be continued as it provides a great opportunity for its participants to develop their leadership abilities. The group also came into agreement that a possible course of action would be the development of a committee or subcommittee that tackles this topic. Discussions then arose on its possible structure and determining which UP Office this may be placed under.

A skeleton of this hypothetical committee or subcommittee was formulated. After a roundtable sharing of thoughts, the group decided to revolve around the concept of community-centered leadership with a focus on DRRM and community engagement. This decision came about with the common understanding that the purpose of SAI was to be a tool in refining possible leaders in the UP community. With this focus and mechanism in place, a brainstorming session occurred for the objectives of this would-be group. Two main objectives were selected: (1) the identification of potential leaders in the UP community and (2) the development of these individuals’ leadership abilities.

With a general plan and direction prepared for this committee or subcommittee, the key actions identified for its realization were coordinating with Karitha Guerrero-Ordiz of the OVCCA and a presentation for these plans. The group set July 12, 2024 as the next meeting to provide an in-depth discussion on its design and concretizing these ideas
