UP RI – RCW and TVUP Plan Children’s Educational TV Program on Climate

On February 1, 2024, UP RI – RCW, headed by Director Dr. Glecy C. Atienza, met with TVUP Director Dr. Grace J. Alfonso and staff to discuss the terms of collaboration for “Panahon Na!” a proposed children’s educational television program. The collaboration between TVUP and UP RI aims to raise a new generation of climate champions and provide parents, caregivers, and educators with tools to discuss climate and related concepts with children.

Teaching planetary health to children would plant the seeds of sustainability and help them become creative, capable, independent, responsible, and resilient adults of the future. While children’s TV has started to take on the challenge of climate education, no such program currently exists in the Philippines. “Panahon Na!” aims to fill that gap through a 13-episode program to air on TVUP via Cignal TV.

In addition to the children’s program, “Panahon Na!” is also the title of a related social media campaign and a planned illustrated children’s book on climate-related terminology.
