UP Diliman’s College of Human Kinetics Undergoes Rapid Assessment

On June 10, 2024, the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI) spearheaded a rapid assessment of the five key buildings at the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) in UP Diliman. This important initiative, aimed at bolstering disaster preparedness, was led by Jose Abraham Ongkiko, Chief Science Research Specialist. He was ably supported by Junior Project Assistants Jonathan David Maligalig, Jerzyne Anne Corpus, and Franklin Joshua Gali. Joining them was Gelle Ann Flores from the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), and CHK’s building administrator, Rico Tercio, who provided essential on-ground support.

The inspection kicked off at the Tennis Court, followed by comprehensive evaluations of the Football Stadium, Baseball Field, Gymnasium, and finally, the Varsity Training Center. Each structure was meticulously examined to identify vulnerabilities and areas needing improvement, ensuring that CHK is well-prepared for any potential disasters.

The findings from this rapid assessment will play a critical role in CHK’s forthcoming Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) training workshop. Scheduled to take place around August, this workshop will integrate the assessment results into a robust EPP draft, furthering CHK’s commitment to safety and resilience.
