The National Service Training Program (NSTP) of UP Los Baños invited the UP Resilience Institute (UP RI) to share their knowledge and experiences in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) last February 17, 2025. UP RI was represented by the Institution Building’s Chief Science Research Specialist, Mr. Jose Abraham Ongkiko.

The lecture participants included second year students and instructors. There were 754 participants in total. Batch 1 in the morning had 356 online and 38 in the classroom. Batch 2 in the afternoon had 260 online and 160 in the classroom. The DRRM module intended to provide participants with basic knowledge, terminologies, and actual scenarios on DRRM covering five modules. The modules include a review on hazards and disaster concepts. The Philippine risk profile was elaborated with the DRRM frameworks and policies. Mr. Ongkiko further discussed the importance of emergency readiness and developing family evacuation plans. He showed the components of a Go survival bag, a key component for emergencies.
In the last module, as a way forward and application of learning, the students were then tasked to prepare their emergency resilience plan for their respective families. The module aims to enable the students in preparedness and planning initiatives.
