In a meeting between the UP Resilience Institute (UPRI) and the UP Diliman (UPD) Office of Student Housing (OSH) held on May 22, 2024, key steps were discussed to enhance the emergency preparedness plans (EPP) for the university’s dormitories. Representing UPRI were Jose Abraham Ongkiko (Chief Science Research Specialist), Jerzyne Anne Corpuz, and Jonathan David Maligalig, who played essential roles in the discussions and planning.
The meeting, led by Sir Sonny, continued from previous discussions, focusing on the heightened need for safety measures during the UAAP season, especially with UPD as the host. With around 3,000 students living in 12 dormitories under OSH, the importance of robust emergency plans is paramount.
Key topics included the design and implementation of training sessions and a comprehensive Rapid Assessment to identify specific areas needing attention before the EPP. The collaboration outlined the roles of both OSH and UPRI in ensuring the success of these initiatives. OSH will handle logistics, while UPRI will provide expert resource persons.
The meeting also touched on the importance of involving building administrators and security personnel in the training to ensure a cohesive and effective emergency response. There was a strong emphasis on developing communication plans and conducting realistic drills to improve standardized protocols.
As the discussions progressed, the team explored potential dates and logistical arrangements, aiming to integrate the activities seamlessly into the academic schedule. The collaboration highlighted the need for thorough preparation and continuous improvement in emergency readiness.
This meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing the safety and preparedness of UPD’s dormitory residents, showcasing the commitment of both UPRI and OSH to creating a secure and responsive environment.
