The 2nd day of Summer School focused on the role of different stakeholders: local government, NGOs, and volunteers. Ms. Adrian Rojas, the APRU Secretariat, introduced the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). She encouraged the participants to submit their research abstracts in the upcoming events of APRU. Prof. Takako Izumi of the IRIDeS and APRU Multi-Hazards Program introduced the program and gave an overview of the role of stakeholders in disaster risk reduction.
Mr. Hiroo Nishiyama from Tagajo City lectured on the role of local government in reconstruction and disaster risk reduction. Mr. Takeshi Komino from the Church World Service (CWS) Japan shared his experiences in the role of NGOs in mainstreaming disaster risk reduction. Dr. Shakti Raj Shrestha from the Center of Natural Hazards & Disaster Science (SNDS)/ Uppsala University, Sweden, anchored his discussion on the role and impact of volunteers during disaster response. Various questions from the participants related to governance, financing, and community involvement were discussed and addressed.

In the afternoon, participants were divided into various groups. They were tasked to share their research paper, fields of research, and expertise. Each group had participants from different fields. Groups were asked to share the summary of their discussion. Each representative shared their insights, learnings, and experiences.
