RCW participates in INREM Conference

 

The UP Resilience Institute – Research and Creative Work Division (RCW) actively participated during the UP Los Baños – Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Integrated Natural Resources and Environment Management (UPLB – Interdisciplinary Studies for INREM) 4th International Conference held on November 21 to 23, 2023 at the Century Park Hotel Manila.

On the first day, the RCW Director Dr. Glecy C. Atienza presented an Introduction to Networking Initiative of the 4th INREM Conference and encouraged attendees to take the opportunity to seek partnerships and collaborations during the conference.

Chief Science Research Specialist Dennis de la Torre then discussed the “Prospects of Green Growth within the Context of Climate Emergency” on the second day. In his presentation, he highlighted that crafting a national strategy on the bio-circular green and blue economy can maximize green growth and the inclusion of cross-cutting implementation sector-based strategies that exploit the opportunities for climate change mitigation including financing, technology transfer, and green financing while addressing climate and disaster impacts to limit loss and damage.

On the third day of the conference, Junior Project Assistant For. Alexa Samantha R. Hernandez presented during Session 2A: Undergraduate Research Presentations with her undergraduate thesis entitled, “Mangroves Enhancing Local Climate Resilience: The Case Of Olo-Olo Mangrove Forest And Ecopark, Lobo, Batangas, Philippines.” In the afternoon, Dr. Atienza continued the Discussion of the Networking Initiatives where the participants were asked to discuss which thematic areas or initiatives they would like to get prioritized. 

Other RCW staff also attended the INREM conference. Junior Project Assistants (JPAs) Jamie Therese T. Gundaya and Mape C. Estellena attended on the first day, and Ramon Christopher A. Caballero on the second day, respectively. Meanwhile, Supervising Researcher Christian Jesus G. Sanchez and JPA Kyrios Hafid Concordia assisted Dr. Atienza in facilitating the Networking Initiatives activity on the last day of the conference.
