The Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plans (LUDIPs) of the SUCs from Region 1 were subject to an evaluation by a technical working group (TWG) invited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of Region 1 in September and October 2022.
The Technical Working Group is composed of representatives from various agencies: Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) North Luzon Chapter, and UP Resilience Institute (UP RI).
The initial evaluations were sent to the SUCs for them to incorporate in the revision of their LUDIPs.
On May 12, 2023, another round of evaluation was conducted via a Zoom teleconference by the said TWG for the revisions of the LUDIPs from the following SUCs in Region 1:
- Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) & North Luzon Philippines State College (NLPSC)
- Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU)
- Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU)
- Pangasinan State University (PSU)
- University of Northern Philippines (UNP)
UP RI’s focus on the SUCs’ LUDIP is concerning the presence of thematic maps for the campuses’ climate and disaster risks, and GIS hazard maps. Dir. Genaro A. Cuaresma, as a member of the TWG, along with Ms. Anjanette Mariano, a research staff from UP RI, recommended that the SUCs include high resolution hazard maps with overlay analysis including exposure units in their LUDIPs.
Once the SUCs submit their final revision of their LUDIPs incorporating the comments made by the TWG, these will be endorsed for approval to their respective Board of Regents.
