The Municipality of Rodriguez (formerly known as Montalban, Rizal) is headed by its mayor, HON. GEN. Ronnie S. Evangelista (RET.). He gave a warm welcome to the representatives of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UP RI).
The Institution Building (IB) office represented the UP RI, led by Dir. Genaro Cuaresma. The meeting began with the introduction of UP RI with the enumeration of the five offices (UP Noah Center, Education, Research and Creative Work, Knowledge Sharing, and Institution Building), their functions, and core mandates. Dir. Cuaresma highlighted the institution’s goal of achieving a disaster-resilient community.
In his discussion, he expounded on the projects and plans in which UP RI can assist the municipality. This includes hazard assessment, Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA), ecological profile, Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), Comprehensive Development Plan, Local Climate Change Action Plan, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan, Contingency Plan, and others.
Hon. Evangelista shared a general profile of Rodriguez – its location, people, and situation. He also explained the hazards the Municipality of Rodriguez faces and the responses they do. A fruitful discussion took place between the Municipality of Rodriguez and UP RI. The institution hopes to collaborate with the municipality to establish a more disaster-resilient Rodriguez.
