UPRI engages young aspiring social scientists at the CSSPirit Social Science Job Fair

The CSSPirit Month Social Science Job Fair served as a dynamic platform for students to exchange ideas and explore opportunities with esteemed institutions across the public service sector, academia, and NGOs. The event’s overarching theme was “kápwa,” highlighting the community-centric tradition of the social sciences.

The UP Resilience Institute’s endeavors align seamlessly with this theme in its mission to empower local communities through multi-disciplinary resilience-building. On April 25, 2024, the UP Resilience Institute actively participated in the fair, engaging with students from different branches of the social sciences including anthropology, political science, geography, history, linguistics, psychology, and many more.

Many students were eager to know of ideas to address complex national and global issues of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. They were excited to learn about the UPRI’s current undertakings and how they might contribute to these critical fields. UPRI representatives shared details on ongoing projects and programs that students can participate in, which included the UPRI Internship Program, Resilience Live, Panahon na, and Behind the Science Podcast.

Effective resilience-building and sustainability require the combined strengths of multiple disciplines, with the social sciences playing an integral role. UPRI is excited to welcome aspiring social scientists into the fields of disaster and climate science, fostering a new generation of professionals dedicated to resilience and sustainability.
