On October 8, 2024, the Institution Building (IB) division of the UP Resilience Institute (UPRI) held a meeting with representatives from the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) to discuss a possible Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) training. The meeting aimed to explore how UPRI can assist SET in developing an effective plan tailored to their specific needs as tenants.
During the discussion, UPRI’s team, led by Jose Abraham Ongkiko, presented an overview of their various programs and training services related to disaster preparedness. Franklin Joshua Gali, a Junior Project Assistant from UPRI, also provided insight into previous EPP trainings conducted with other institutions such as CAL, NIGS, and NCPAG, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in ensuring the safety and preparedness of organizations.
SET expressed concerns about their current setup as tenants without a dedicated Disaster Risk Reduction team or permanent office space. They emphasized the need for a customized EPP that would help them assess risks and ensure zero casualties in the event of an emergency.
UPRI assured SET of their support in guiding them through policy-making and risk assessment, while also proposing a two-day training course that would focus on developing essential policies and conducting rapid assessments.
As part of the next steps, UPRI will provide SET with a detailed training outline and budget proposal, with the goal of finalizing the arrangements before the scheduled training date. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about the potential partnership and the positive impact of the training.
