From March 2–4, 2026, the UP Resilience Institute (UPRI) participated in the Basic Incident Command System (BICS) Training facilitated by the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Representing UPRI – Institution Building, Ms. Jerzyne Anne Corpuz joined Batch 1 of the training. The activity brought together 39 participants from various offices and institutions and aimed to strengthen their understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) through a series of lectures, discussions, and practical exercises.
The three-day training covered eight modules, each designed to introduce and deepen participants’ knowledge of the different components of the ICS framework. The sessions were facilitated by resource persons and course monitors who guided the participants through key topics, including the basic terminologies, structure, and operational processes of the Incident Command System. Each module concluded with a corresponding activity or exercise, providing participants with the opportunity to apply the concepts discussed and simulate how the system is implemented during actual incident management.
Following the completion of all lectures and exercises, participants undertook a post-test to assess their learning and understanding of the training modules. The program concluded with an awarding ceremony recognizing the participants who successfully completed the course requirements.
The second batch of the Basic Incident Command System (BICS) Training is scheduled to take place from March 4–7, 2026, continuing the effort to further build the capacity of institutions and personnel in applying the Incident Command System in emergency and disaster response operations.
