Last December 12, 2023, the Research and Creative Work Division hosted the Academic Alliance for Anticipatory Action (4As) Validation Workshop and Writeshop on Enhancing Anticipatory Action in the Philippines in Aklan, Philippines.
The UP Resilience Institute (UP RI) is part of 4As, a USAID-supported international consortium composed of universities from the U.S., Bangladesh, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, and the Philippines. The 4As project, led by former RCW Director Dr. Kristoffer Berse, aims to gather evidence and assess the effectiveness of anticipatory action in the Philippines.
The three-day validation workshop and writeshop aimed to present the findings of the two work packages of the project and gather further input on the online flood forecasting dashboard from key stakeholders in Panay Island. The activity also validated the WP2 findings by seeking scientific knowledge and local insights from various experts. After the consultation, the team collectively drafted their final project outputs, which will soon be published as journal articles.
The workshop consisted of the UP RI 4As Team together with the local DRR and climate change experts from Capiz, Aklan, Iloilo, and Antique, representing the Philippine Red Cross, LGUs, SUCs, and CSOs.
