Representatives of the Yuan Ye Architect Awards from Taiwan toured the offices of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI) following UP’s visit to Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The purpose of their visit was to explore potential collaboration with the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG), School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP), UPRI, and the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners National Capital Regions (PIEP NCR), aligning with the principles of the PAGLINANG forum. During the four-day visit, the Taiwanese representatives initiated discussions on the localization of the Yuan Ye Architect Awards model in the Philippines.
The visit culminated in a half-day forum, where Prof. Kuei-Feng Chang, Ph.D. (Chairperson, Department of Real Estate Management, National Pingtung University, Taiwan), Ray (Ruel-Hong) Tseng (Architect, RHT Architects, and Associates Founder, Green Lab Asia), and Po-Cheng (Paul) Chou, Ph.D. (Associate Professor and Former Dean, College of Design, Shu-Te University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan), delivered presentations on various topics. These included the legacy of the Yuan Ye Architect Awards, a study of Asian architecture prototypes in a changing climate in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and the preservation and revitalization of indigenous slate houses. Their presentations showcased successful prototypes and best practices from Taiwan that could potentially be replicated in the Philippines.
The University of the Philippines Resilience Institute played a key role in organizing the visit and hosted a portion of the scheduled tours for the delegates. During the tour of the UPRI Offices, the delegates received an overview of the institute’s functions and outputs. They were also shown the facilities of UPRI, including a showcase of the personnel at work.
