UPRI Consultation with NIGS for Emergency Preparedness Initiatives and Engagements

On February 16, 2026, the UP Resilience Institute, Institution Building (UPRI-IB) Division held a meeting with the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS), with the primary goal of discussing the updates on the Emergency Preparedness Plan, along with its organizational structure and emergency response procedures. This engagement emphasizes the programs of UPRI to capacitate the UP System as per its mandate. 

A revised EPP framework and an overview of the planned schedule for NSED were the key points during the meeting. It also included the additional programs, namely the fire drills and bomb threat drills. In response, NIGS demonstrated a proactive 

The key points included in the meeting were the revised EPP framework, and an overview of the planned 2026 drills which encompasses both the fire drills and bomb threat orientation and simulation exercises. NIGS responded positively to these trainings by offering to host both the fire and bomb threat drills. 

NIGS expressed significant interest in participating in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) Orientation Training. These trainings were to ensure that they become more capacitated in their emergency response protocols. Additionally, NIGS has been working on improving their Incident Management Team and improving their equipment in the college based on their EPP. This initiative is necessary to further their preparedness and resilience as part of the IB Mandate. 

The meeting successfully adjourned with a shared commitment in building a safer and more resilient university community through coordinated planning, organized emergency response, and sustained collaborative efforts alongside UPRI.
