UPRI YouthMappers receives the 2023 Global Community Award and 2023 Women’s Participation Award

 

YouthMappers, an international university consortium on Mapping for Resilience supported by the USAID Geocenter, has released its list of chapter awardees for 2023. The UP Resilience Institute Youth Mappers (UPRI YouthMappers) is the student chapter of the network at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

For this year, the UPRI YouthMappers has received the 2023 Global Community Award and 2023 Women’s Participation Award from the YouthMappers network and USAID GeoCenter.

The Global Community Award is a special award given to YouthMappers chapters that demonstrated global reach in their activities, research, and contributions to open-mapping while advancing the mission of YouthMappers to cultivate a generation of young leaders.

The Women’s Participation Award is given to chapters for committing to carry out a vision of an inclusive mapping community through membership and leadership. 

Awards for YouthMappers chapters are given every first quarter of the year. Since its launch in August 2018, the UPRI YouthMappers has received 11 awards.

The organization’s adviser, Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay, also received a James Kweku Eshun Mentoring Award – awarded to chapter advisors offering the highest level of support to YouthMappers chapters, facilitating learning opportunities, and going above and beyond their duty to advise and mentor youth mappers, in 2021. 

Since its inception, the organization has demonstrated excellence in the open mapping community and continuously strives to contribute to building collaborative activities around humanitarian and development within the local community and the YouthMappers network.
